DESCRIPTION: Profusely decorated
late 18th/early 19th century Turkish flintlock blunderbuss pistol.

in its rear part, and fantastic Islamic style gold
inlays (koftgari) in its front part (please, see pictures).
The barrel tang also displays a deep engraving. French style
lockplate displays lightly engraved floral motifs and

Balkan Tanchika Miquelet Pistol/Carbine with Unusual Leather
Holster
Caliber: 16 mm
Price: $1875
Inventory # apf_0068
Pictures:
|
DESCRIPTION: Very attractive
Balkan Tanchika miquelet pistol/carbine with an unusual leather
holster. This seems to be a conversion (cut down) of the
Tanchika musket. The period holster was purposely made
for this pistol/carbine. The holster is probably more unusual
than Tanchika (I have not seen another one)! The Tanchika
style is usually associated with Albania, although these
guns were used throughout the Balkans in 18th and 19th Century.
The design reflects both, Oriental and European influences. Good
quality half round, half octagonal barrel. Miquelet lock seems
to be of Balkan/Turkish origins. The stock is covered almost
entirely with brass and iron decorative sheets. One iron barrel
bands. All the iron and brass parts of the muskets are elaborately
decorated with floral motifs. The buttstock is covered
with some decorative bone, mother of pearl, or shark skin plates
(please, see pictures). Beautifully shaped and decorated iron
trigger guard. The left side of the stock has an iron loop for
a rope/lanyard. The leather holster displays some geometrical
decoration. CONDITION: Fine. The barrel shows some scattered
surface rust, and/or pitting. Some cleaning marks are also present
on the barrel. The buttstock shows some wear, with some
decorative plates, either missing, or damaged. The metal plates
covering the stock shows some dark patina. Overall length: 24.25
inch. Barrel length: 11 inch. The leather holster is still in
very good condition. The leather is soft and flexible. The stitching
is original and strong. Very unusual set of Balkan Tanchika
pistol/carbine with a period manufactured leather holster!
