Elaborately Decorated Greek Flintlock Pistol

DESCRIPTION: Beautiful, late 18th Century Greek flintlock pistol. The style of the pistol reflects both, Oriental and European influences. French style lock plate without any markings. French style, very good quality flintlock. These parts were very often imported to the Ottoman Empire from Western Europe. Typical Greek style, solid metal stock ( silver alloy?) decorated with floral motifs. Round, Turkish style barrel with beautiful gold koftgari decorations with some Arabic script (please, see pictures). Silver barrel band with matching motifs. Non-functional, decorative silver ramrod is a part of the barrel band. The pistol is of considerably higher quality than usually encountered. The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in Balkans, including the Greek uprisings. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall excellent, all original condition. The gold koftgari is beautifully preserved on the barrel. The solid metal stock is in fine condition with some minor handling marks. The lock works fine. The bore is in very good condition. Albanian "Rat Tail" Miquelet Pistol

DESCRIPTION: Profusely decorated early 19th Century Albanian flintlock "rat tail" pistol. Albania was a part of the Ottoman Empire at the time. The region was famous for a large number of gun makers, who manufactured this kind of pistol in big quantities for the Ottoman army. The entire stock is covered with lightly engraved brass plates, which is a characteristic feature of Albanian pistols. The pistol is decorated with ornamental motifs. Half-octagonal, half-round barrel. Top of the barrel is also engraved with floral patterns. The lock plate displays the gun maker mark in Arabic characters. The barrel also displays three maker's marks. One brass barrel band decorated in oriental motifs. Complete with the iron ramrod. The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in Balkans, including the Greek uprisings. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall fine, all original condition. Engraving on the barrel is slightly worn. The stock is solid and nicely preserved. Five decorative brass nails are missing from the buttstock. The brass plate on the right side of the buttstock is slightly loose. The bore is in very good condition. Miquelet lock is in working order. The pistol does not show any repairs. French style, very good quality flintlock. These parts were very often imported to Balkans from Western Europe. Typical Balkan style stock is covered with brass plates, that are decorated with engraved floral motifs. Brass trigger guard and butt. Both parts display nice engravings. Round barrel. Non-functional, decorative ramrod is a part of the stock. The pistol is of considerably higher quality than usually encountered. The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in Balkans, including the Greek uprisings. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall excellent, all original condition. All the iron parts of the pistol, including the barrel, are covered with some patina. The stock is in fine condition with some minor handling marks and light dings. There is a small crack in the brass plate on the left side of the stock next to the counter screw. Some wear to the tip of the non-functional cleaning rod (please, see pictures). The lock works fine. The barrel shows some surface rust and occasional pitting. The muzzle has a small damage, with a chip of iron missing. The stock is solid and nicely preserved. Four decorative brass nails are missing from the buttstock. The brass plate on the upper part of the buttstock shows a small crack. The bore is in good condition. Miquelet lock is in working order. DESCRIPTION: Profusely decorated Persian miquelet pistol from the early 19th Century. Some sources identify this type of the rifle-style firearm as a "Knee Pistol". The name came from the way of firing the gun by the horse rider, when the butt was pressed against the knee. The reference books usually identify this weapon as either Azari, or Persian. The pistol is decorated with ornamental motifs. Typical Azari/Persian blunderbuss style stock with carbine buttstock. The stock is decorated with inlaid bone and bronze pins. Bone buttplate. Good quality barrel with maker markings and some engraving. The pistol was either manufactured without the barrel band, or the latter is missing. No provision for the ramrod. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall fine, all original condition. The iron parts of the pistol, including the barrel and the miquelet lock are covered with brown patina. The front counter screw is missing. The stock shows some handling marks and light dings, but no cracks. Some minor wear to the decorations on the stock, with some small pieces missing. The lock needs adjustment, as the hammer does not stay open. The bore is in very good condition. The pistol does not show any repairs. All the parts are original to the pistol. DESCRIPTION: Profusely decorated Azari miquelet blunderbuss from the early 19th Century. Some sources identify this type of the rifle-style firearm as a "Knee Pistol". French style lock plate with unrecognizable markings (they meant to be unrecognizable as most of the gun makers in the Balkan region were illiterate at the time). French style, very good quality flintlock. These parts were very often imported to Turkey from Western Europe. Typical Balkan style stock decorated with inlaid wire, mother of pearl and brass/iron plates. Iron counter plate, trigger guard and butt. The latter displays nice engravings. Non-functional wooden ramrod is a part of the stock. The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in Balkans, including the Greek uprisings. Half-octagonal, half-round barrel with very nice, deeply engraved floral motifs. The upper part of the barrel also displays "letters" that suppose to look like the maker markings. French style lock plate with unrecognizable markings (they meant to be unrecognizable as most of the gun makers in the region were illiterate at the time). French style, very good quality flintlock. These parts were very often imported to Turkey from Western Europe. Bronze butt and counter plate with beautiful deep engraving. The pistol was manufactured without a ramrod and barrel bands. The barrel is attached to the stock by bronze wire. The wire was also present on the butt of the stock at one time, and is now missing. Plain, iron trigger guard. The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in Balkans, including the Greek uprisings. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall fine, all original condition. Beautiful Caucasian/Cossack Men's Belt (19th Century)

DESCRIPTION: Beautiful 19th century Caucasian/Cossack men's belt! Natural color high quality leather with elaborately decorated six silver niello fittings. The belt was an essential part of the Caucasian dress. The pistols and kindjals were usually attached to the belt in the society where every man was a warrior. No maker's signature is present on the silver fittings. Similar style belts were manufactured and used in both, Chechnia and Dagestan. This type of belt was also used by Russian Cossacks. CONDITION: Fine. The leather is still soft and flexible. The silver fittings are well preserved. Very attractive Caucasian belt! (Ref. "Chechen Arms" , by Isa Askhabov, pp.102-133 and pp.167-169).
