Since Georg Roth did not have a gun factory (he was an ammo maker), the production was set up at the Waffenfabrik Steyr. Initially, the pistol was offered on the commercial market as "Roth Steyr M.1905". In 1907, the pistol was adopted by Austro-Hungarian cavalry as "Model 1907". The pistols of this type were widely used during the World War One. The pistol was manufactured by Waffenfabrik Steyr, as indicated by markings on the barrel housing. The regimental ring on the right side grip does not display any markings. Fixed front and rear sights. All matching serial numbers. Excellent quality machining and polishing! Unusual Austro-Hungarian Mannlicher M.1905 Automatic Pistol (a Prototype?)

Caliber: 7.63 mm Mannlicher

Price: $6750

Inventory # syp_0050

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Early Austro-Hungarian Mannlicher M.1905 semi-automatic pistol. The pistol was designed by Ferdinand von Mannlicher, one of the most famous gun designers of the period. Many Austro-Hungarian officers privately purchased Mannlicher pistols and carried them during the World War One. The pistol was manufactured by Waffenfabrik Steyr, as indicated by markings on the left side of the frame. The left side of the frame displays also the wording, "System Mannlicher Md.1905". The pistol displays neither a serial number nor the proof markings (!). This may indicate that the pistol was either a prototype for the Argentinian military contract, or a sale sample. The pistol is almost identical to Argentinian M.1905 Mannlicher pistols. The major difference is a lack of the lanyard loop on the hilt, and a lack of the Argentinian crest on the right side of the frame. Very high quality of machining and finish! Delayed blowback action. Fixed front and rear sights. Eight shot integral magazine (stripper clip fed). Barrel length is 159 mm. CONDITION: Excellent. 93% of original blue finish still on metal. Single and double action. Folding trigger. Open top design without a cylinder bridge. Octagonal barrel with fixed front sight. Very nice ebony grips. Six-chamber cylinder. The design also features an Arendt patent protective ring for pins. Complete with a lanyard ring. Silver, geometrical style inlays on the cylinder, barrel, grip and frame (typical for Arendt). DESCRIPTION: Beautifully preserved, large frame Dutch M.1873 Old Model army revolver in 9.4 mm caliber. The revolver was adopted by Dutch army in 1873 and was manufactured by several Dutch gun makers. This particular revolver was manufactured by Werkplaatsen voor Draagbare Wapenen (WDW) in Delft prior to 1896, as indicated by lack of the maker's markings on the right side of the frame (see: "Die Militarrevolver der Niederlande 1856-1940" by H.E.Harder and W.A.Dreschler, p.88). Only 4250 of such revolvers were manufactured by this maker in Delft. The "Old Model" revolvers had an octagonal barrel and a serial number with no prefix (as opposed to "New Model" revolvers, that had a round barrel and a letter prefix in front of the serial number). The serial number is stamped on the left side of the barrel, close to the frame. All matching serial numbers. There are several proofs on the barrel, frame and cylinder, "IB", "Crown over H", "Crown over X", etc. All kinds of other Dutch military proofs are present on various metal parts. Nice hardwood grips with a cartouche displaying a king Willem III royal letter and a date of production, "Crown over W, 1887". Complete with a lanyard ring. CONDITION: Near mint. 99% of original, crisp blue finish is still on metal. Most of the finish wear is on the sharp edges of the front part of the barrel. Bore is in excellent+ condition, with strong and shiny rifling. Chambers are also in excellent+ condition. Strong action. All the markings and numbers are clearly visible on the metal. All the internal parts of the revolver are in excellent to near mint condition, with no visible wear. The hardwood grips are in excellent condition with some minor handling marks. Scarce and attractive Dutch military revolver! Antique. Serial# 57XX. (Ref.: "Geschichte und Technik der europaischen Militarrevolver" by Rolf H. Muller, pp. 612-613, also in "Die Militarrevolver der Niederlande 1856-1940" by H.E.Harder and W.A.Dreschler, pp.79-102).

Scarce French Remington Rolling Block Type Pistol

Caliber: 11 mm French Ordnance Revolver M.1873 (Army)

Price: $1275

Inventory # apc_0243

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Scarce French Remington Rolling Block type pistol intended for the civilian market. The pistol shows neither a maker address, nor proof markings. The caliber seems to be 11 mm French Ordnance. Based on the caliber and on the excellent quality of the machining and metal finish, I suspect that the pistol was manufactured in France (although Switzerland also comes to my mind...). The style of the barrel and the grip is definitely European. The rolling block mechanism is of excellent quality. I suspect that the pistol was designed to fire a low pressure 11 mm black powder cartridge and it should not be used with any other cartridge. Handsome hardwood grips with diamond checkering. Half round, half octagonal barrel. The barrel has a blue finish, while all the remaining parts of the pistol display nice case coloring. CONDITION: Fine, with 80% of original finish on metal. The case coloring is somewhat worn. The blue finish on the barrel is nicely preserved. The bore is in good to very good condition. The rifling is somewhat worn and the walls are displaying some cleaning (?) marks/scratches. There is no rust in the bore. The action works fine. Wooden grips are in excellent condition with some minor handling marks. Complete with lanyard ring. Antique. Very attractive Remington Rolling Block type pistol!

Scarce Le Page Retailed French M.1874 Chamelot Delvigne Commercial Revolver with German WWI Style Shoulder Holster

Caliber: 11 mm French Ordnance Revolver M.1873 (Army)

Price: $1975

Inventory # apc_0203

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Scarce French M.1874 Chamelot Delvigne revolver intended for the civilian market. The revolver was retailed by Le Page, as indicated by markings on the barrel, "Faure Le Page a Paris" (please, see pictures). The revolver comes with a very scarce Imperial German World War One style officer shoulder holster. This may indicate that the revolver was privately purchased from Le Page by a German officer, who carried it during the World War One. The holster was custom made for this particular revolver (fits perfectly!). The wear on the revolver and holster indicate that the two were together for a very long time (a Great War bring back?). Externally, M.1874 commercial revolver is almost identical with French officer M.1874 revolver (except for the markings). Careful examination of the internal parts may reveal that they are not interchangeable with the military revolver parts. In fact, some of the M.1874 commercial revolvers have slightly different mechanism than M.1874 officer revolvers. The revolver was designed to fire a low pressure 11 mm black powder cartridge and should not be used with any other cartridge. Fluted cylinder. Fancy checkering on the hammer and loading gate. Matching serial numbers. Very high quality of machining and metal finish. Handsome, black hardwood grips with diamond checkering (ebony?). Chamelot Delvigne was one of the most reliable revolvers of 1870-s. CONDITION: Fine, with 86% of original, slightly thinning blue finish on metal. Blue is turning to brownish color in some places (mostly on the hilt and trigger guard). Occasional spots of light patina and/or peppering. Fading case coloring on the hammer, trigger and loading gate. The bore is in excellent condition, with strong and shiny rifling. Cylinder chambers are in fine condition. The action works fine. All the markings and numbers are clearly visible on metal. Wooden grips are in excellent condition with some minor handling marks. Complete with lanyard ring. Holster is in fine condition. The leather is still soft and flexible. Original stitching. Antique. Very attractive World War One rig! Serial# 175XX. (Ref. "Military Handguns of France" by Eugene Medlin and Jean Huon., pp. 35, also in "Les Revolvers Militaires Francais" by Henri Vuillemin, p.123).

Scarce Italian Army Issue M.1916 Orbea Hermanos Revolver

Caliber: 10.35 mm Italian

Price: $675

Inventory # swp_0037

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Very scarce Italian World War One six-shot military revolver! The gun is a Spanish-made copy of the six-shot hinged-frame Smith & Wesson, which was built to prevent a shortage of handguns in the Italian army during the World War One. Manufactured by Orbea Hermanos, Eibar, Spain, one of the Spanish gun makers to receive contracts from the Italian army during the First World War. Right side of the frame, as well as both plastic grips displays "OH" trade mark. The top of the barrel has following markings, "REVOLVER M. 1916 CAL. 10-35". The revolver is almost identical with British Old Pattern No.2 Mk. I and Romanian M.1915, except for the caliber. Italy purchased several thousand M.1916 revolvers during the World War One. They did not have any special Italian government markings, they can be identified by the caliber, 10.35 mm Italian. The left side of the frame displays post-WWI Italian retailer name, "F. TETTONI -BRESCIA" (these revolvers were sold as war-surplus after 1918, and sometimes are found with names of Italian gun dealers stamped on the frame). Muller believes that some of these revolvers remained in Italian service till 1942 (he also believes that Tettoni was an importer, and not a retailer). Double and single action. Six-chamber cylinder. Barrel length: 5 inches. Fixed sights. Complete with lanyard ring. Many revolvers of this type were used by British, Italian and Romanian armies in Europe during the World War One. They were reliable and relatively inexpensive. CONDITION: Low fine. 82% of blue finish remains on metal (blue is worn mostly on the sharp edges of steel parts, as well as on the front part of the barrel). The barrel and front sights show some surface rust and/or pitting. Some light patina on the hilt. The finish on the frame has a reddish color (a result of poor quality bluing process in the Spanish factory?). Excellent bore with strong and shiny rifling. The cylinder chambers are also in excellent condition. Strong action. Brown hardened rubber grips show some wear (mainly the right side grip with a couple of hairline cracks). All the markings and numbers are clearly visible on metal. All the internal parts of the revolver are in fine condition, with no visible wear. A must for World War One collector!

Italian service revolver with interesting World War One history! (Ref. "Geschichte und Technik der europaischen Militarrevolver" by Rolf H. Muller, pp. 534-535).
