Scarce French Remington Rolling Block Type Pistol

Caliber: 11 mm French Ordnance Revolver M.1873 (Army)

Price: $1275

Inventory # apc_0243

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Scarce French Remington Rolling Block type pistol intended for the civilian market. The pistol shows neither a maker address, nor proof markings. The caliber seems to be 11 mm French Ordnance. Based on the caliber and on the excellent quality of the machining and metal finish, I suspect that the pistol was manufactured in France (although Switzerland also comes to my mind...). The style of the barrel and the grip is definitely European. The rolling block mechanism is of excellent quality. I suspect that the pistol was designed to fire a low pressure 11 mm black powder cartridge and it should not be used with any other cartridge. Handsome hardwood grips with diamond checkering. Half round, half octagonal barrel. The barrel has a blue finish, while all the remaining parts of the pistol display nice case coloring. CONDITION: Fine, with 80% of original finish on metal. The case coloring is somewhat worn. The blue finish on the barrel is nicely preserved. The bore is in good to very good condition. The rifling is somewhat worn and the walls are displaying some cleaning (?) marks/scratches. There is no rust in the bore. The action works fine. Wooden grips are in excellent condition with some minor handling marks. Complete with lanyard ring. Antique. Very attractive Remington Rolling Block type pistol!

John Wayne Production Company Remington Rolling Block Rifle M.1902

Caliber: 7 x 57 mm, rimless.

Price: $1000

Inventory # arc_0629

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: One of the few surviving Remington Rolling Block rifles that belonged to John Wayne Production Company BATJAC. The left side of the buttstock displays company's name, "BATJAC" (please, see pictures). The rifle was used in the movie "Alamo", pretending to be a flintlock, with the light alloy plate attached to its action (not included). The holes from the nails that secured the "flintlock" plate are still visible on the right side of the buttstock (camouflaged with some wood filling material, please, see pictures). Most of these guns were stored in private residence in Malibu, CA, and were consequently burned in the big Malibu fire. This one was not! The rifle is in original military configuration. Three-line Remington address with a patent date is stamped on the receiver's tang, "Remington Arms Co., Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A, Patented Octr. 22nd, 1902". The caliber designation is stamped on the barrel, "Cal. 7 mm". The rear sight is graduated from 100 to 2000 m. Fixed front sight. Two piece walnut stock with a handguard. Flat style steel buttplate. Two barrel bands. The nosecap has a bayonet lug. Two military style sling swivels. No cleaning rod. The rifles of this type were ordered by many governments in South and Central America, as well as by Mexico. CONDITION: Overall in low fine condition. Metal has 85-88% of blue finish, turning to brownish color patina. Some pitting on the barrel along the stock lines (please, see pictures). Fine bore with strong and shiny rifling. Strong action. Mechanically, the rifle is in very good condition. Solid stocks with some handling marks, dings and scratches (mostly on the right side of the buttstock). The front part of the handguard has a hairline crack (please, see pictures). Light alloy flintlock plate that was nailed to the stock during the production of the movie "Alamo" is not included. Scarce! A must for a John Wayne collector! C&R required.

Interesting Japanese Rolling Block Shotgun

Caliber: 36 gauge

Price: $750

Inventory # arc_0412

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Interesting and scarce Japanese made rolling block shotgun. The shape of the shotgun may provide hints as to its origins. In fact, the shotgun does not follow the lines of American and European manufactured Rolling Blocks. The buttstock creates almost a straight line with the barrel. The shotgun features a round barrel with the last few inches near the receiver turning to octagonal shape. Simple non-adjustable front and rear sights. Two step hammer. The buttstock was made without the buttplate. Two sling swivels. There is no manufacturer's address on the receiver tang. No markings can be found on the receiver/barrel assembly. Buttstock has a diamond checkering at the wrist. The shotgun was manufactured without a handguard. The receiver and the trigger guard are nicely engraved in floral motifs. CONDITION: Very good. 70% of original finish with occasional light patina and minor peppering. Most of the finish is turning to uniform brown color. Solid buttstock with minor wear and some handling marks, dings and light scratches. The forestock has a crack on its right side (please, see pictures). There is a piece of wood missing in the front/right part of the forestock. Original finish on the stocks. Very good bore. All the internal parts of the shotgun are in very good condition, with no visible wear. The receiver screws' heads show screwdriver's marks. The firing pin needs either repair, or just an adjustment, as it seems to be stuck in the rolling block. Overall length: 36.50 inch. Barrel length: 24 inch. Interesting gun for the Remington Rolling Block collector! Antique.

Very Interesting Spanish Army Contract M.1870 Remington Rolling Block Infantry Rifle

Caliber: 11 x 58 R, rimmed (.43 Spanish)

Price: $1875

Inventory # arc_0404

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: The rifle appears to be one of the very last of the original, American made, Remington Spanish Models' ordered by Spain following its official adoption in February of 1871. Spain started production of the rolling block rifles in its own arsenal at Oviedo in 1870. There is a Spanish Bourbon Fleur d' Lis mark on the left side of the frame, which indicates Spanish ownership of the rifle. The markings on the right side of the buttstock, "MO" most likely stand for "Modelo" (Model). The number, "2367" mistakenly stands for Feb. 3, 1867, which should be 2.3.71 for Feb 3, 1871 (thus it was lined, or canceled out as a mistake). The second number starts with letter, "PC " (Patria Cubana?, Philippine Constabulary?). The rifle may have been issued to the Cuban Colonial Garrison, or to the Philippine Constabulary. Spanish Crowns are stamped on each of the three barrel bands. Three-lines, new style Remington address on the tang. Two piece walnut stock without the handguard (correct). Second issue type breech block without screw for retaining the firing pin. Solid type barrel bands retained by springs in the stock. Round barrel. Ramp-and-leaf rear sight hinged at the back of the block. Two step hammer. Concave buttplate. Complete with the cleaning rod. This type of rifle was used in large numbers during the Spanish-American War. CONDITION: Excellent. There is about 92% of the original finish on metal, turning to brownish color in some places. Occasional spots of light patina. The stocks show some minor handling marks. Otherwise, the stocks are solid and smooth. Nice, crisp action. Excellent bore with strong and shiny rifling. All the internal parts of the rifle are in fine condition, with no visible wear. The rifle does not show any repairs. All the parts are original to the rifle. Overall length: 50.50 inch. Barrel length: 35 inch. Very interesting Spanish army Remington Rolling Block rifle from the time of Spanish-American War! Antique.

DESCRIPTION: Interesting and scarce Belgian made rolling block shotgun! Half round, half octagonal barrel. Shotgun style front sight. The gun was manufactured without the rear sight. Two step hammer. Shotgun style steel buttplate. There is no manufacturer's address on the receiver tang. The barrel displays following wording, "Acier Fin" (engraved and highlighted in silver). The back of the barrel shows Liege proof marks. Similar double barrel rolling block shotguns were manufactured by Nagant factory in Liege (see: "Les Revolvers Et Les Fusils Nagant", pp. 22-25). Matching serial numbers (the serial numbers are stamped on the frame of receiver and on the barrel only). The gun has blue finish, except for the hammer and rolling block that are finished in case coloring. Buttstock with the pistol grip and diamond checkering at the wrist. Massive Remington Percussion Bench Target Rifle

Caliber: 0.50

Price: $2000

Inventory # rmr_0001

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Target bench rifle with a very heavy half-round, half-octagonal barrel stamped "Remington". Very early and scarce target bench rifle! Manufactured in the very early period of the gun maker activity, before the mass production of Remington rifles began. There is no indication if Remington manufactured just the barrel, which is signed with his name, or the entire rifle. Most of the books on the subject indicate that, in the early period of his activity, Remington manufactured just barrels. The "Remington" markings on the barrel are slightly fading, but still recognizable (please, see pictures). The front part of the lockplate displays another gun maker markings, "A. Hundt". The caliber of the rifle seems to be about 0.50 mm (based on the bore diameter). Fixed front and rear sights. The back of the barrel is predrilled for some kind of the target scope. The distance between the centers of the holes is exactly 1 inch. Target style brass buttplate and trigger guard. Double set trigger. The lower/front part of the stock displays a decorative brass plate (for the owner initials?). Massive metal nosecap (I am not sure what metal it is). The lockplate is lightly engraved in geometrical motifs. Brass counterplate. Very nice walnut stock with "tiger stripes" pattern (please, see pictures). The ramrod is missing. The two brass fittings for the stock key are also missing. The overall length of the rifle is 43.5 inch. The barrel length is 28 inch. The length of the octagonal part of the barrel is 13 inch. The length of the round part of the barrel is 15 inch. The diameter of the front of the barrel is 30 mm. The diameter of the barrel just before the octagon starts is 37 mm. The diameter of the barrel at the octagon is 41 mm. The thickness of the barrel walls at the muzzle is 8.5 mm. Weight of the rifle is about 20 pounds. CONDITION: Very good+ to fine, antique condition. Metal is covered with smooth, gray patina. A couple of spots of metal roughness on the lockplate and barrel. The front part of the stock has some old cracks. The stock shows some old glue under the barrel, so the cracks seem to be secured. Wood was most likely refinished when the cracks were repaired. The front/right side of the stock shows some wear along the barrel line. There is also some stock wear under the barrel, all the way to the ramrod channel (please, see pictures). The hammer does not stay cocked, the main spring may need to be adjusted. Very impressive early American target bench rifle! Antique. (Oversize shipping and insurance rate is $45 for this item only).
